I believe we are all made in the image of God with some capacity to create. Although my creative interests vary from the acoustic guitar to painting, my favorite way to engage in the creative process is to take pictures. For me, there's something satisfying about capturing the glorious, peaceful, beautiful, and intricate aspects of our world. It gives me joy to record such scenes in a form that can be shared with others today as well as generations to come.
My intention is to encourage others to see the world differently—mostly, to pause, if only to realize that we exist in a world full of glorious splendor, even (and especially) in the 'mundane' details. We should learn to notice these things. For me, gazing at the natural close enough can provide a glimpse into the super-natural . . . for Who can know all of the details of all of these things, but God Himself?
While I struggle to find the time to develop my technique as well as the time to just get out and photograph, my greatest challenge in this sphere of my life is simply figuring out how to give God the glory for the eyes He has given me and the beautiful Earth He has given all of us to capture, if but for fleeting moments . . . I suppose even what I've just written is an attempt to do just that.
. . . What may be known about God is plain. . . because God has made it plain. . . For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities, His eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.*
Unfortunately, I don't believe all of my photographs do this statement justice. Many of them only cause me to ask more questions. Perhaps therein lies the desire to continue . . . and I don't believe I'll ever finish.
If you'd ever like to talk more about my photography (or yours) or anything else, feel free to drop me a note. I'd love to hear from you.
Thanks for stopping by.
Yours,
Matthew
